7/29/12

1. It was so much easier to shop for clothes for my kids when they were younger.
2. I hate the fact that I went to the movies and was concerned about my safety.
3. The mall on a Saturday night makes me feel very old.
4. The only thing I think of when they talk of Michael Phelps is that marijuana smoking pic.
5. I really do put in effort to watch the Olympics, but then they show water polo and I'm totally bored.
6. My dog, Daisy acts like she is so scared of Rich. He has never done anything to her but she steers clear of him.
7. Never underestimate the power of a bad headache. It will make you miserable.
8. When Rich & I get a night without the kids we spend most of the time talking about the kids.
9. If you drop your iPhone too many times the screen will break. A broken screen makes for a sad Carla.

Black Dresser

Dresser or entertainment bureau
36 in long, 29 in tall, 18 in depth.
Solid wood, 4 drawer.
Granite Annie Sloan chalk paint. Dark waxed, which adds depth and darkens color. The handles on this chest are one of a kind leather pulls. Top is stained wood. Very durable. Perfect for a bedroom dresser or can easily hold a television and store away entertainment games and videos in a living room area. This is available for pick up in Scottdale, or willing to meet. This will fit in an suv.

Here are some past projects I have completed.  Some of these pieces I found at auctions, flea markets, yard sales, thrift shops, or some great people passed them onto me.  Others were commissioned for me to paint from individuals looking to update and breathe new life into old pieces!

Toy box was a thrift store find. Painted in Annie Sloan chalk paint of versallies (sage green color) and clear and dark waxed. Sold for $50.00

Duck egg blue Annie Sloan paint and clear and dark waxed.

Hello fancy side board! Painted in a creamy beige and then glazed to bring out all the details of the nooks and crannies! When I bought this the top was pilling vaneer and it needed to be removed (hello splinters!!). Sold for $200.00

This was a well made (because my dad made it!) dresser.  It was painted in off white Annie Sloan chalk paint and highly distressed and then clear waxed. Sold for $65.00

endtables were a FB STW find and upcycled. Sold for $60.00

Zebra cabinet/bureau was huge and massively heavy!! Started off as a commissioned piece but deal fell through and now it has made it's way into a new home for $125.00.  Zebra was free handed by me!! This is probably my most talked about piece!

Hello 1970's cabinet end tables, welcome to 2012!!! Sold $40.00

This will always be one of my favorites because of the funky-ness!! Painted in custom lime green finish and covered in hot pink polka dot fabric! Sold for $75.00

 Microwave cart. Painted in Annie Sloan primer red and dark waxed. This was a difficult piece because of the slates.  It was sold for $50

 My very first bird/owl dresser, nightstand set.  This was painted with coco chalk paint, the mod podged with scrapbook papers for owl, leaves, and birds. The mod podge makes it very durable and it will not pill off.  Loved this set!! Sold for $150.00

 Pink chalk paint, clear waxed French provincial. These dressers are hard to find, but I love them! The curves and details look great when painted. This was sold as a set with a nightstand and chair for $150.00

 Purple hootie was a custom request. Sold for $60.00

 Little stool. Sold for $10.00

 This huge antique bureau was found at at antique shop. Poor thing had yellowed cracked clear coat finish......gross!! It was painted in pure white chalk paint and clear waxed. She also got some beautiful new glass knobs.  Sold for $150.00

 Solid wood bookcase was a thrift shop find.  Painted in blue/grey paint which I made to resemble chalk paint. No wax added because I liked the flat finish.  Sold for $75.00

Weekly Reflections

Well, I thought I'd add my weekly reflections to here for those who don't have a facebook (Although, why the whole world doesn't have a FB I'll never understand! Come on, it's 2012 and I'm nosey and wanna snoop into everyone. Perhaps everyone isn't as much of an open book as me!!) So without further addo--or is it adue or a-do---whatev....here goes:

7/22/12
1. One of my biggest mail related pet peeves is the number of renewal notices you get from magazine subscriptions. I do not need a notice a month for 6 months prior to expirations. I always renew but not until the month before. Annoying!
2. My week has been Channing Tatum deprived.
3. My chitlins have no ability to flush the toilet. EVER!
4. This tooth fairy crap is getting old. She likes to sleep and never has change for a $20.
5. I'm sick of paying for day camp when my kids clearly do not want to go and I have no work.
6. The cover of Rolling Stones has Justin Beiber on it. Headline says..."he's hot, ready, and legal.". Um...waaaa? Gross! As if a month ago hottie cougars were all "Damn he's hot, but underage...but just wait until he's 18 and then we'll pounce!". Yuck, yuck, yuck.
7. My Aunt said there isn't an animal I don't like. And she's right, I do love them all!

Union Jack Library Table

Here is a before and after shot of the Union jack table I completed.  It was done in white chalk paint, which I made, and the red and blue are Annie Sloan chalk paints. The most difficult part was measuring and taping it off. Since I suck at measuring, it is not perfect, but that adds character! Besides my finger wideth is an accurate measurements, right??
The desk is solid wood, but there is some wood seperation issues on top. I was too lazy to wood fill them so I let them alone. Sadly this would have been the perfect surface to do a union jack with various shades of stain had the surface level been perfect. 
I sand and distress because I like the worn, shabby finish. 
The piece was clear waxed with Minwax. I like this wax for the smooth finish and low sheen, however it does yellow the paint a little.  I don't mind this because I like the look and the wax is easy to work with. If you plan to wax a lot of furniture invest in a good wax brush which is rounded. It will save you from rubbing on with cloth and is well worth the money.

This is the white painted. Unfortunantly, I liked it this way but it didn't sell.....so onto next level!

Love Annie Sloan....just received her Emperor's Silk and love the brightness to this red. This is much more vivid than the primer red, which is an aged, barn door look.

Painted in white chalk paint then clear waxed. Slightly distressed for aged, shabby chic look. This is perfect in an entry way as a library table, or for use as a desk. It is located in Scottdale, but willing to meet.

testing, testing 1-2-3!

I feel like I am taking my first steps...teetering and holding onto furniture. But, instead of rushing to dear ol' mom or dad, I am rushing into blog land. (Which I hear is a lot like Alice in Wonderland, minus the mind altering substances.)
So where is the spell check button, is someone going to tell me if I mess-up or do I go on looking like a total idiot?
And...can I erase this crap if I don't like what it says or do I look like a maniac in the interwebs forever?
And pictures...I would really like to look all cool and stuff and show fabulous photos.......how will I do that?
I could use a blog 101 and I'm sure there are classes on that but I'm too lazy to go so bear with me and it could get better...or there will be more of the same, either way I'm sure you are sitting on the edge or your seat, waiting with baited (or is is it bated) breathe for my next words of wisdom! (yes, I even type in run on sentences like the way I talk!)
So dear readers (which probably is just my husband, maybe my dad if I can introduce him to this and a few high school friends)....what next?
I guess I'll answer a question if you have one...or not.....maybe I'll just ignore it...either way, enjoy the read!
